What to do


You'll never be bored in Dunkeld. With a seemingly unlimited amount of walks through the hills, activities such as shooting, cycling, fishing and golf, there is always plenty to keep you occupied. Dunkeld has boutique shops, great places to eat, some of the worlds finest whisky and a rich heritage that will take you back in time.

High Street

Dunkeld's high street, although small, is full of beautiful boutique shops. There is a delicatessen where you can buy specialty food, interior design shops, traditional Scottish shops and a lot more.

Golf

There are about 40 golf courses within 40 minutes drive from Dunkeld. You will see why Scotland is the home of golf while you're here. Dunkeld even has it's own Dunkeld and Birnam golf course. Shooting

The County Clays shooting centre is just a short walk from our Hotel. They will help you organise clay pigeon shooting. Cardney Sporting Estate is just four miles east of Dunkeld. Here you can take part in partridge and pheasant shotting, duck flighting and deer stalking. Please ask at reception to be put in touch with the right people.

Fish

Fishing in Dunkeld is some of the best in the country. Visit this link for information on fishing in the area. Dunkeld Salmon is some of the finest you will find. The village also has it's very own smokehouse where you can turn your catch of the day into world famous Scottish Dunkeld Smoked Salmon. Delicious!

Cycle

There are countless cycle trails around Dunkeld. With Progession Bikes just around the corner, you'll have the choice of all the cycling and mountian biking trails in the area which can be as challenging as you could wish for. Whisky

Scotland is famous for it's whiskys. If you like a dram, you'll not be disappointed with Dunkeld. At the Royal Dunkeld Hotel we have our own great selection of whisky for you to try. Craft beer and ales are always a big hit. With micro breweries and whisky distilleries on our doorstep, you'll have too much to choose from.

Walk

There is no shortage of great places to walk in Dunkeld & Birnam. Walk down to the great Birnam Oak, the enormous old oak tree which inspired the "Birnam Wood" forest in Shakespeare's Macbeth. Birnam Hill will give you a beautiful panoramic view of the town and surrounding countryside, or, if you're looking for something more relaxing, why not take a stroll up or down the banks of the river Tay, Scotland's longest river.

Explore

Dunkeld has so much great heritage for you to explore. Being the first ecclesiastical capital of mediaeval Scotland, there is definitely a lot to see and learn about.
